Mid-Century Modern

During the American Post War era, great creative minds such as Eero Saarinen, Charles and Ray Eames, Harry Bertoia, and George Nakashima, designed functional + aesthetically pleasing furniture to suit the needs of growing families. Mid-century modern designs have stood the test of time and look particularly fabulous mixed with traditional and/or contemporary styles.

MCM lighting has a similarly impressive space-age look featuring sleek, simple lines. Think arc lamps, globe lights, and ceramic table lamps in a rainbow of colors. I love the contrast of hardwood + glossy white ceramic in this vintage lamp, just listed in the shop:

A Floral Still Life

A colorful floral still life can add so much to any space. I especially love them hung salon style with other art on a wall, or left alone in a small and unexpected spot... a hallway, nook, bathroom, etc.

Matchbooks

I love collecting new + vintage matchbooks along the way. Both fun and functional, they can be a great reminder of a special time and place every time you light a candle or start a fire. Colorful versions look great in a small bowl or dish:

Or piled high in a large glass bowl on a coffee table:

If you're stash isn't particularly attractive, nothing works better than a vintage matchbox holder:

Speaking of matchbooks, have you been enjoyed reading Matchbook--the online monthly lifestyle magazine? If you haven't yet, you must check it out. Every issue just keeps getting better and better.

Vintage Brass Animals

It's a virtual farm right now at Estate Eclectic with our unique selection of vintage brass animals! They look great perched atop a stack of books, as a coffee table accessory, or a paperweight on a desk.

Faux Bamboo Furniture

This vintage wood + cane side table just hit the shop (don't you love the brass casters?) and I'm excited to focus on faux bamboo furniture today. Popular in the 1960s, I'd venture to say it's become a classic. From tables to chairs to chests and etageres, faux bamboo pieces work in both traditional and modern settings and thanks to the power of paint the color options are endless.
